If you have not worked in 10 years you will likely require a FENS refresher course by TXBoN. You will likely have significant difficulty securing visa sponsorship and a job offer with over a decade of no nursing experience. Your need for visa sponsorship combined with the surplus of new & experienced US nurses seeking employment will compound your difficulty. The nurse refresher class may ease the transition but nursing has changed a lot in a decade. It is not easy but not impossible.

Have you kept up with continuing professional development over the past decade?

TX will process your endorsement but last I read can't issue a license until you have a valid SSN. (Per federal mandates regarding issuing professional licenses)

About visa,I'll be getting my EAD by july/august,and so the SSN Later.

You may be required to return to nursing school with over a dozen years since graduation and no clinical practice whatsoever since you graduated overseas. Suggest you review the TX nurse practice act and application for endorsement as an IEN from TXBoN.

Must have been employed as a registered nurse or have taken and passed the appropriate RN examination during the past four (4) years. If you passed a national exam more than four years ago, and you have not been employed as a registered nurse in another state within the last four (4) years, then you must comply with Rule 217.5 (b).

You will need to first:

ï‚· Apply for a Six-Month Temporary Permit (http://www.bon.texas.gov/olv/pdfs/6mth-rn.pdf) and

ï‚· Complete a board approved refresher course

ï‚· Complete the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam (NJE) in addition to one of the following:

o the online Texas Board of Nursing Jurisprudence Prep Course,

o the Texas Board of Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics Workshop, or

o Texas Board of Nursing approved Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics course.

It is the nurse's responsibility to submit both of the completion certificates (NJE and choice of prep course/workshop/course) to our office.

You will be granted access to the NJE within fifteen business days of the date we receive the Six-Month Temporary Permit application. Note: If you complete the NJE as part of the requirements for the Refresher Course, then the passing results can be used for the Endorsement application portion as well.
