Hi! I dont know if this is the right place to post this? Anyone know much about this, or ever had it done? What is your experience, good or bad? This is what my Gyn is recommending for me, and I am jsut curious! Thanks!

I would like to know a bit more about your history and why the GYN is suggesting it before comment. I have a good site here that explains it better, if you care to look:

I have a friend who underwent this for uncontrollable bleeding (she has no cancer history and is low risk, so wanted to keep her uterus and ovaries) and she is very happy with the results. I am hesitant to comment much more, not knowing your history and of course, not being a doctor! I hope the above helps you some.

I had this done in February 2003. It seemed to work well for the first six months or so, but then I went back to having frequent, long, heavy periods (although not as heavy as they'd been before the procedure) for another year or so. Now, however, I've gone a year without a heavy period, and in fact I hadn't had an actual period since December before this one started a week ago.......still, it's been controllable with a single tampon or pad, and it's almost over now.

To be honest, I don't know whether the ablation is finally doing what it was supposed to do, or whether it's just the last dying gasps of my reproductive system (I'm 46, been in perimenopause since I was 42) before it gives up for good. I do know that life has been better since the ablation.......I don't have to carry gobs of feminine supplies everywhere I go 'just in case', and I'm no longer anemic because of the constant heavy blood losses. :)

I had my uterine ablation done this past March and it is the greatest thing I have ever done. :yelclap:

I went from being in terrible pain during my periods, bleeding anywhere from 3-7 days during my actual period and spotting in between.

The Dr. who did the procedure said I had a blockage in one of my tubes and some small cysts so that was probably why I was having so much pain.

He took pictures before the procedure was done and after and it was so neat to see the difference.

I had to laugh at dh, who did not have a clue of what he was looking at when the dr. showed him the pictures. :uhoh3:

I went the hosptial at 8 am and was back home by 1 pm... I was in recovery about an hour, but a bonus was not having to be intabated. I woke up in recovery from a wonderful sleep, feeling really refreshed and relieved, with some cramping similar to labor pains, but was quickly alleviated with pain meds...

When I got home from the hospital, I put a thermacare mentrual heat pad on an and slept for a couple of hours. After that i took Advil prn.

Anyways, I was up and about the next day with no real side effects other than a bit sleepy and really no bleeding/spotting, nor cramping. I was well enough to attend some of my classes the next day, but climbing steps was a bit much...

The lasting effects have been very minimal spotting for a period which I only need a panty-liner for and it lasts for about a day

The only downside, you still get the PMS...
