Endo tech interview

Published

I applied for an endo tech at a well respected hospital in my area. I got a call the next day from HR for a phone screen and passed and said the manager should be contacting me next week for an interview.

I am currently a CNA on a telemetry floor. I have 1 year experience. I also have phlebotomy training which HR said was required. Why would phlebotomy be required for an endo tech? What can I expect my job duties to be?

In case no one else answers I'll put in my two cents. I am only a float RN in the GI unit and have never worked as a GI tech.

I have no idea why HR said being phlebotomy certified would be good? Maybe HR doesn't know what a GI unit, or GI tech, does?

It is possible you will help admit and discharge patients in the GI unit. But if the position is actually a tech, in the room with the MD, that is fun

Google endoscopy units and endoscopy forceps (and other endoscopy equipment) to see what type of devices you will be working with. You Tube endoscopies and colonoscopies.

In the procedure room you will need to know how the endoscopy unit works, enter patient date into the monitor, connect the scope to the unit, check the suction and water work. You will hand the forceps to the MD, he will guide the forceps through the scope to the polyp, tell you to open and close, you will remove the forceps (with specimen) and put it in a specimen cup.

There is a lot more that does go on in an endoscopy, I just wanted to give you a brief idea of a routine, basic, endoscopy/colonoscopy.
