Emory Pre-reqs

Published

Hi.

I am currently finishing up my pre-req classes (A&P II & Micro). I initially planned on applying to Vanderbilt and checked with them to make sure they accepted A&P and Micro taken as online classes (labs). I was advised they would. I am now thinking of staying home (Atlanta) and applying to Emory. I checked with them and was told that the classes would need to be in a classroom setting. I remember doing a search on here, a year or so ago and a few people said Emory did accept online A&P / Micro. I can't for the life of me find the posts in question though. Has anyone else gotten this same answer from Emory and is this a recent policy change? Looks like I will have to stick with Vanderbilt or research other schools that don't care how the pre-reqs were taken.

Your best bet is to email admissions and ask. They are super helpful and respond quickly.

Hi Meeep

I have already spoken to emory admissions and was told if A&P and Micro weren't taken in a classroom setting, then they wouldn't accept them. I'm clear that this pretty much derails my ambitions of going to Emory. My question is if this is something recent they started doing. I could of swore a few people on here (year or so back) had advised Emory did accept them.

Just curious since I also plan on applying to Emory ... but what sort of online classes do they not accept? I'm currently doing the lecture portion of A&P II online. The lab is obviously in person. I'm hoping this isn't something they won't accept!

At my school, the transcript does not differentiate if you took it online versus in person, so I do not know how they would know unless you are taking it at a school that is known for their online sciences. I took all of my sciences in person though, so I never thought to ask! Best to check with the admissions lady - she is incredibly nice.

Thanks meeep. Yeah, the community college I'm doing my pre-reqs at doesn't distinguish between on the transcript either. Now that I'm thinking about it I'm not sure it's a big deal, but I'll email the admissions rep to be safe. I just read this thread and had a moment of panic. I don't want to be set back for the application deadline.

I'm not sure what the threshold is on which online classes they do or don't take. As Meeep said check with admissions. My A&P and Micro classes are fully online, lecture and lab. I am taking them at Austin Peay in Tennessee, and from what I can see on the transcript it doesn't differentiate online or in person. So I may have in a sense been "telling" on myself by inquiring if they accepted online classes of the hard sciences. The one thing that I think may give it away is that the lab isn't listed as a separate class on the transcript. It just shows A&P I and 4 credit hours. Meeep and Monica are your classes listed separately?

Ladi, mine are listed separately. I'm doing my pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter College just outside Atlanta. The lecture and lab are registered for separately and listed as separate classes on the transcript.

I took all of mine on campus, so I cannot help you there. I did take stats and most of my humanities online though, and noticed it doesn't say on the transcript. I really don't know how they would know unless you told them. There are on campus classes that have the lab and lecture as one 4 credit class, as well. One of the state univ is like that, and Gordon State is as well.
