Elms Fall 2016

Published

Hi, I just got accepted to Elms College, in Chicopee, MA, and I'm 90% sure that's where I'm going to go. I haven't officially replied yet but will soon. I was wondering if there were other students on here, as well as former alumni that could tell me about their experience there.

Thanks in advance!

I am starting the ABSN program there this fall. Personally, I have researched EVERY nursing program in this area and Elms is the best. It also has an excellent community reputation. Elms nurses are very well respected. The campus is small and beautiful. I am SO excited to start. I am sure you will enjoy it very much!

How exciting! I accepted my position into the ABSN (that's the accelerated program, correct?) and we moved here a few weeks ago! I have heard from multiple people that Elms is an excellent program and also hard to get into. We'll be in class together! :) Are you from around here? We moved here from California - I'm married, with three kids, aged 5, 3 and 10 months. We got a townhouse just a few blocks from Elms.

Oh wow! Yes it is super competitive they only accept 24 people a year! I was so stressed out during the application process. Welcome to Chicopee! It is a really great program. Were you at orientation? I have 3 as well 14, 9 and 2. It's going to be crazy but awesome. I live in Chicopee and have been in Western Mass most of my life. I love it here. I'm Emily. Are you going nuts getting everything ready? We had to get a sitter for evenings since we have class from late in the day, and my youngest will be going to day care for the first time. Lots of changes but I'm so excited!

Hi Emily! I'm Marie- I didn't make it to orientation as we were driving out here. They're doing another one on Aug 4th.

I didn't realize they only accepted 24 people. Do you know how many apply? I'm still working on a lot of stuff - all my medical stuff. It's a lot of work to just get ready for the program. Are getting vaccinations? I need to do bloodwork to show immunity as I've had a lot of the diseases before and would rather not get vaccines but I don't know where to go to get blood work done. Do you have any idea about that?

Anyway, I'm excited to start! Just hoping I can get everything done that I need to.

I sent you a PM with my number. I would get a primary care doc asap. My in Dr. Po in Holyoke. Or you can go to like a Medical Express they do work physicals and that might be acceptable. Did you bring your health records with you from California? Any doctor will do titers, but you will need proof of MMR, Hep B, Chicken Pox and you will have to have a pertussis. There is not a clinical facility around here that will let you in the door without those. I would make that priority #1 because getting a physical appointment will be tough unless you go to an urgent care provider.

Hi! Yes I ended up going to Drs Express, and got all my titers done. I just have to get my second PPD and then I'm all set.
