I am 54 years old and thinking of getting into being an EKG Technician. I took care of my mother for the past 10 years and now want to get into the job market. Is an EKG Technician a good job field? How is the job advancements and the salary?

From my understanding, it is an entry level job that can be learned with on-the-job training so salary would reflect that. I can't imagine there would be much advancement available without furthering one's education. Whether or not EKG tech is a "good job field" would be a matter of opinion. For me, it would not be a good field for the reasons already stated. For others, who may want a low-stress job and are happy with an entry level salary, it would be more desirable.

Make sure that you get accurate information about the job market before making any firm decision. Similar to phlebotomy, this role is frequently just added on to Respiratory tech & nursing jobs, particularly if a facility is trying to cut costs.
