Educators HELP!!!!

Published

Hello,

I graduated two years ago with my ASN and failed my boards the first time. I desperately want to take AND PASS my boards in the near future but feel I waited to tlong and don't have the knowledge to produce. I have been working in the field this entire time and have been working with multiple nurses that feel I will be fine....however I wish I had there confidence. Is there a course to refresh my knowledge. the refresher courses that I have found seem to only be for nurses that already have there license. Please help.

Thankyou

Have you checked with any local nursing programs or the program from which you graduated to see if it would be possible for you to either take a nursing course(s) or audit the theoretical portion of any nursing course(s). It may be possible for a nursing program to accomodate you into their class and lab sections.

I would start with the program from which your grauduted. They should be sympathetic to your situation and would be more inclined to work with you.

Thankyou, I never even thought about to audit a class. I will contact them tomorrow. Do you have any good advice to study. I have been in the field this entire time, I just don't have the confidence.

Because everyone has their own learning style it is difficult to suggest something specific to use for NCLEX study. Your best selection would be a comprehensive NCLEX-RN review text book, that includes content specific to the 2004 (revised) NCLEX-RN Test Plan. The review book you select should have both content review and NCLEX-RN style questions in both print and on CD.

Ideally the textbook would have both a pretest and a comprehensive test so that you can assess your learning needs prior to beginning study and then evaluate what you have retained at the end of your study plan. Each NCLEX review book includes strategies for selecting the best response, and many have example plans for organizing your studies.

If you do audit nursing courses you may be able to take the exams that are given. This can help you identify content you need to review further as well as help you strenghten your test-taking skills.

Good luck with your studies

I don't know how much money you have at your disposal, but Kaplan review has a great reputation and offers online NCLEX reviews with a vast test bank. Practice, practice, practice is the best way to approach the NCLEX.

If you cannot afford such a pricey program, then a good NCLEX review book would be the next best thing to try. The suggestion about contacting your former teachers and nursing school is great, also. At our college we have computers equipped with NCLEX-practice exam software. Former students are always welcome at our school to practice with the NCLEX programs. Perhaps your former school or another nursing school in the area has similar resources.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing :)
