I was recently in a similar situation. I had an interview as a new nurse in an ICU setting and I prepared answers to a list of questions so that I would not get a brain freeze and loose my one chance.

#1 Why do you want this job. Sometimes it means why do you want to work in an ED or why you want to work for this hospital. Prepare answers to both and speak your answers out loud to someone. Practice.

#2. Why should we hire you ( In this economy I'm sure they had lots of applicants. )

#3 How do you handle stressful situations. You should mention you like to work in an high pressure environment when asked why do you want this job.

#4 Tell me more about you? Tell them about your experience and how it makes you perfect for this job. All your good qualities that will make you a good fit for the job. Example You work well with others, never had any issues with co-workers and you like to help your co-workers.

# 5 Tell me when you went above and beyond for a patient and what was the outcome? If you have nothing. Make something up.

#6. Tell me what you did not like about your previous job. Whatever it is make sure it makes you look like a great candiate for this job.

#7. Tell me your worst quality. Say something like , you like to help too much, or that your always pushing yourself to give 110%. Basically something that makes you loook good.

Make sure you come prepared with questions of your own. It makes you look like a foward thinker. Also interview questions and what to do in an interview have been discussed at length on this site. The best thing is to search the allnurses.com database for " ED interview" or "job interview". What helped me was "ICU interview"

I also brought a copy of my resume and references. Even though they had a copy already. She seemed impressed by that.

Get a good black suit at JCPenny, thats around $100 bucks. Dont do the blouse and skirt/jacket combo. Get mid heel black shoes and stockings. Minimum jewelry. Hair back. Look polished and professional. Just do a search on this site there is so much more information.

By the way. I got the the job I interviewed for. Will be starting Monday. :yeah:
