ED holding charges

We are holding numerous patients in our ED waiting for admissions, as are many others. How are charges placed for those patients?

actually I dont know

At the facility I just worked at, when we did a hold the patient became admitted to that particular floor (ICU/TCU/Med). I assume they were charged as though they are actually on the floor.

You do bring up a very good question though. With the budget crunches most ED's are going through there should be a way to make money for the ED while doing holds.

Where I am at now, we do not do holds, or I would be doing some asking in the billing department, just out of curiosity.
