Hello,
I just finished the EC ASN program. Although I haven't even taken the NCLEX yet, I am chomping at the bit to get my advanced degree! I am looking into going to active service with the military, and they require a BSN or MSN.
I already have my BA in another field (computer science) and because of that I am thinking of getting my MSN rather then my BSN. I do have my eye set on a NP someday. At the same time, the BSN seems to have more practical classes (ie assessment, teaching...)
In addition, I am wondering if there are people that have gone through a BSN or MSN program though Excelsior, and may provide additional suggestions (ie, if I should go through another school.) I am tempting to just stick with Excelsior, especially since they already have my transcripts!!
Thanks for your input!

I'm planning on going back RN-MSN after I get CPNE out the way...if I have any functioning brain cells left! I believe the classes required for BSN are still required for MSN, when you get through with those, then you can take the additional 6 or 7 classes specified for MSN, depending on which concentration you choose. With ECE, you can opt to recieve your BSN when you get up to a certain point, if you are needing your BSN for something while you finish up the rest of requirments for MSN.
If you have your nursing packet they send when you enroll, the info is listed in it, and it's also in the online nursing catelog.

That is true if you don't have a BA or BS already in another field.
I actually just got off the phone with EC, and the lady there said that for a NP (which is what I eventually want) I should go the BSN route as most programs require this. I am going to look into this a little more, and I would love to hear from people who did go for their NP to hear their suggestions!!

Think about what you want to get out of your program and investigate what is out there before making your decision. There could be a program that offers more than others when it comes down to the nitty gritty. You don't want to miss out on that because of a hasty decision.
