DWI and licensing

U.S.A. Texas

I am a nursing student in the DFW metroplex. 4 years ago I got a misdemeanor DWI. Now someone has asked me why I am going to LVN school when I cannot get licensed. I called the BON and they tell me that I need to ask for a determination but that could take up to six months. By that time I will be finished with school. I need to know whether I am waisting my time and money. Does anyone out there know?

hello, zach's mom,

two questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?

these are questions that can not be answered by the membership of allnurses. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.
