Durham Tech Fall 2015 ADN Program

Hello everyone! How are you? I am starting this thread because I intend to apply to Durham Tech's ADN program that begins next fall. I know this may be a bit early, but I would like to have a place where all of us who will be applying can share our doubts, frustrations, and excitements, while helping one another. Anyone who is currently in the program or has already graduated is more than welcome to contribute your valuable experiences and opinions, and all of us will be extremely grateful.

I just took the TEAS at Durham Tech this past Thursday, and thank goodness I passed. When I first got there in the morning, I was a bit worried because I was the only person there to take the test. For the students who already took the TEAS before me, how did your tests go? I hope you all successfully passed the test and gained experiences. I thought the reading section was a bit harder than I expected, but it could be due to the fact that I wasn't in the test-taking mood yet so early in the morning. Now I am just waiting for the online admissions packet to be updated to the 2015 version. I am actually surprised that it hasn't been updated yet, has it been the norm for past years? I cannot say I am not getting anxious! ;)

I attended the information session on the 12th, did anybody also attend? I thought the presentation and Q&A were pretty decent and informative, but the whole process still seems so overwhelming and stressful! I cannot believe we have to wait till April 1st to hear the decisions. It is the only school I am applying to, so I know I shouldn't, but I can only put all my eggs in one basket this time. Has anybody submitted your admission packet already? I am going to submit mine pretty soon, hopefully before Christmas. Well, like I said, I hope this can be a place where we can help each other out or just dump our frustrations. Good luck to everybody who is applying!

Hello!

I just submitted my application yesterday. I'm of course super nervous, but I'm hoping all goes well. Have you been able to submit yet? Do you live in Durham?

Hi, I just turned in my application on Friday too! I was waiting for my grades to come out. It is so scary that there is no way of knowing how many people are applying or where the cut-off is going to be. I live in Carrboro, where do you live?

It is very nerve wracking! DTCC is the only school I am applying to as well. I live in Durham, so I'm hoping the extra points will help get me in.

Do you happen to remember how many people they said would get in? I remember they said it at the information session, but didn't write it down.

Well, I guess the pressure is just getting on us extra hard since we are both applying to this one school. I am sure living in Durham will help you quite a bit! I don't remember exactly, but I think they said about 50 or less than 60 students are getting accepted.

I think that 50 sounds about right. I just hope that I'm part of that 50. I'm going to be stressed out waiting to hear back! Can't believe that it takes so long :nailbiting:.

I was a little worried when I submitted my application that we didn't receive any receipt or confirmation of turning it in. I hope it gets to where it's supposed to be!

Yeah, I think 50 sounds right too. Not everybody who is accepted is going to go, so shooting towards the top 60 or so should be alright. The problem is that we have no idea how many people we are competing against. It would be scary if we are up against a few hundred applicants. Yeah, I kind of had the same worry too. I turned my packet in to the front desk, and nobody put any stamp or signature on it, and as soon as I closed the door, I saw the guy opening up my packet and taking my papers out to look at them. I just hope all my documents are still in one place and nothing is missing.

Hello! I am applying to the Durham Tech program for 2015 as well. I have learned from nursing admissions and enrollment that Durham Tech was able to allow more student into the program this year. Normally they only have room for 64 student and will be accepting 70 students this year.

Wow, that is definitely a very encouraging piece of information! Thanks a lot for informing us about it on allnurses! How is your application going? Have you already submitted it?

Hi Tiffany! I just read your profile and am amazed by your experience! You've already had so much experience working in the hospital as a Surgical Technologist! Are you also working as a CNA too? I think you have an extremely high chance of getting into the program at Durham Tech this fall! I just cannot stand all this waiting....

Thanks! I have been working in the OR for almost 6 years now and really enjoy what I do. I know that the nurses have better benefits/salaries/bonuses/ etc, so it is time for me to have that too! I'm really looking forward to my career as a nurse.

I got an email from the school saying that my application was received and completed, and that I would know about the status of the application at the end of March.

At least now I know they have it, and now I just continue waiting!! :)
