Driving through Hulbert

Anyone else here have an experience like this?

We recently had to pay for towing and 2 tickets, and my husband and son had to call a friend for a ride at around midnight. They were coming home (Tahlequah) after a trip to Kansas. We've heard the Hulbert police are buddies with a certain tow company. A ticket wasn't enough for those guys. Speeding wasn't even the issue, but for a bad light bulb for the license plate. Other towns you'd just be warned to get it fixed. The experience reminded me of that old show The Dukes of Hazard and their greedy Boss Hogg character.

Hulbert has always been bad. It would almost be urban legend if it hadn't happened to our church group going to the Illinois River for canoeing. Another church group got stopped both coming and going to the Illinois River. What a way to ruin someone's day. :angryfire

I had read in the Tulsa World where 3 Oklahoma towns in the eastern part of the state were declared speed traps. One was Big Cabin, and I can't remember the other two. I seem to remember they were in the southeastern part of the state and I don't get down there too much, so I didn't worry about them. ;)

Actually, I remember my DH and I were going to a small resort and when we called and asked for directions, they actually warned us about Hulbert and to avoid it if possible.

Hulbert's reputation has been around at least 20 years, if not more.

Yes, they are legend. I do believe that the are on the states list of being watched very closely.

There were a few news stories recently. They absolutely terrorized some folks of different ethicity.

I live in locust grove and I am glad I don't have to go there. :D
