Okay so I am a high school junior and I was recently pulled into my guidance office the other day and we had the talk about college .. i knew for a while know that i want to go into nursing school but I don't know where to start ... i have been looking at many schools but i am unsure if i should go to a school with an ASN program where you can work and continue towards a BSN or just go right to the BSN program ... Also I was interested in Thomas Jefferson but I hear you have to complete pre re work before you can start your classes and everything .. along with that the question of, will i have to take a year off of school and complete pre reqs before i can even go into nursing school or is that just some of the schools ?? this is really hard to figure out and i was just needed some help and my counselor was really no help lol .. but also if someone could suggest some schools for me to look at that would be great ... i have a pretty good GPA unweighted of 3.4 and i am a male and plan on doing the allied health program at our school .. again any help or advice would be great THANKS !!!

I did AHT in high school too! I loved it!

Where are you at? What state, I can't recommend schools with out knowing ;).

Also, *most* nursing programs have waiting lists. It could take 1-2 years to get into the nursing program. ADN usually have longer waits than BSN programs. It's a good idea to get all the stuff you can done before you hit the actual nursing classes, you would be amazed at how long it takes to write a care plan or study pharm.

So take the englishs, A&P's, communications, psychologies... ANYTHING you can take while waiting so it makes being in the nursing program that much easier!

Also, go talk to a college counselor. They are a wealth of info!

Good luck!

how great to know what you want to do at such a young age! i was 24 when i finally decided to go to nursing school. you can find a lot of information about nursing and nursing school on these websites that are devoted to explaining to people who want to be nurses exactly what nursing is all about:

these two sites will tell you about the two types of licensed nurses here in the u.s.:

it doesn't really much matter what nursing school you go to. it's what you make of the education you get. i went to a little podunk nursing school in the middle of nowhere and i have had a shining career and worked in several states and in some very large prestigious hospitals and even worked at a hospital that has many famous celebrity patients. who knew?

here is a listing of the official state of pennsylvania board of nursing approved rn nursing programs:

and the lpn programs:
