Published

Hi! I have known from here that NY does not require a local license for you to take the NCLEX, but my question is---will this also apply in the visa screening? a friend told me that a local license may be needed for visa screening....is this true? or does this only apply in some other states but not if you will be taking the NY route?

Pls help me on this guys...Thanks and goodluck to all of us!

for visa screen you need a pass in either NCLEX or CGFNS exam

no local license is needed to work in the us for immigration or even most licenses.

cgfns exam requires that you have a local license, but that is required in only a handful of states now.

I have tried to apply for visa screen online but could not complete my application because they required a license which i dont have. Do you have any inputs regarding this matter?

My question is if local license (license in my country) is needed in application for visascreen? I have heard from some that even if the state you are applying doesn't require you to have local license (in my case it's NY), you may be required to have it when you apply for visascreen. How true is this? I don't have a license in my country, will I encounter any problems when I apply to ICHP for visascreen if I don't have local license? Please help. Thanks a lot.

Suzanne has given the answer, and I am sure I have read a few comments on here that you don't need a local licence. All you need for visa screen is your transcripts, schooling (not required if left school over 10 yrs I think) and pass for either NCLEX or CGFNS exam

I should imagine they are after a US licence so if you haven't passed NCLEX and CGFNS exam you need to pass one of them and get your results passed on the VS won't be issued until you have passed one of them and they have the results

Got it. Thanks a lot silverdragon. God bless.

Im not sure if this is what you want to know KyatRN but i'll assume that this is what is causing the confusion on your part. Suppose KyatRN is trying to fill up her application for Visascreen Application Form 2006.

On the first few pages when you print the Application form there will be a seperate form with a title Request for Validation of Registration/ License for Visascreen. You dont have to include this in the application to be submitted if you dont have a license to verify, if you include this, it will cause you more delays because the office of CGFNS/ICHP will wait for your results. In short you dont have to include that form Request for Validation of Registration/ License for Visascreen.

Also in the Application Form for Visascreen 2006 item no 15. Registration/License - this part im not sure you have to skip and leave it blank or attach a letter on why you did not take the Local Licensure Exam from your country.

yes this is a example, i have raised this question already, the visascreen asked for a license validation form from the philippines

q. does the visascreen, cgfns certification or any other cgfns program require that initial licensure be in the country of first level, professional education?

a.
(it says blah, blah, blah, blah......) 2 paragraphs... and so on and so forth..

many u.s. states have the same rule. new york does not require it for registered nurses, but it does for lpns. if an
rn
educated in the phillipines obtained initial licensure in ny, cgfns would review the matter on a case-by-base basis. cgfns would, e.g., consider if that person couldn't take the licensing exam because he or she was not a philippine citizen or if he or she had to leave the country for some reason and was unable to take the licensing exam.

for the purposes of the visascreen
, if the applicant was not licensed in their country of education,
then it is not required
because the
visascreen regulations say
"all licenses ever held, past or present". so if an applicant never held a license, cgfns does not hold them to producing one.

No it does not, if you read it carefully. If you have a license in the Philippines, then it needs to be included. If you never received a license there, then it does not need to be included. The application is only one, they do not preduce for both those that took the local boards, as well as another that did not.

Same thing goes for if you are just taking the NCLEX exam in a state that does not grant a license without having a SSN#, you do not list the state on the application because you do not have a license in the US. You just have the state that you passed NCLEX for submit proof that you passed the exam.

And if you look clase, Visa Screen Certificate does not require a license in the US either, only passing of NCLEX-RN exam or the CGFNS exam. No where does it say that there is a license required.

If so, what about all of the nurses that passed NCLEX-RN and came over to the US for California. They are not issued a license until they are already in the US.

Do not try to read things into it that is not there. It will actually only cause you issues when working in the US.
