Does retaking prereq courses hurt chances of acceptance at Cypress College?

Hi,

Does anyone know if retaking the core sciences classes(ANAT, PHYSIO and MED MICRO) will negatively affect the chances of getting into Cypress college's nursing program even after the retakes, I have a 4.0?:crying2:

Well you can only retake if you didn't pass. If you got a C or better it won't get knocked out it's set in stone. Did you pass them? If you take micro again take Todd white he's awesome very clear and really helpful.

Sorry but no retaking does not effect your chances it's based on points if you don't pass and retake it clears out your D or F

Hi Gizelle,

Thanks for replying! I was wondering because I got a C+ in micro during my bachelors and if I retake micro at cypress, will the nursing program average the A and C+ or will they take the more recent grade? I heard that I will need 29 points to get into the nursing program.

When did you take micro? If it's been more than 5 years it won't count and then you could retake it. That goes for all 3 of the core science classes. No they won't average them that would be nice. Yeah the cut off point I heard last time was 28.

I don't know how many points it is having your Bachelors it may make up the difference between the C (2) points and the A (5 points)

Hi,

Sorry I am a bit confused...so the nursing program would only look at the grades I got the first time I took the classes and completely disregard my A's from the second time?

Yes exactly unless you were able to get a grade deletion which erases your previous grade and they would never know but if they both show on your transcripts they take the 1st attempt if it is a C or better ( I was told by cypress nursing program counselor) . Call the counselors over at cypress even the receptionist should be able to tell you. I know a few people who are kicking themselves for not dropping the class when they knew they weren't gonna get the grade they needed. How long ago did you take it originally?

Again if it was more than 5 years ago the lesser grades wouldn't count

I took it about three years ago, but I just realized that med mic is called something else at my university, so I actually got an A! :yeah::yeah:

I've been trying to get a hold of the counselors, but it just says to e-mail the onlinecounselor! Thank you so much for the help!

sorry I have one last question! My school separates physio lec and lab, but I've only taken the lecture and cypress only offers physio lec/lab together, so I would have to retake the whole class?

Yeah you do cause it has to have a lab so there's ---- and ------ of ---- test are based on his online quizzes so you just have to study those I took ------ and got an A. I'm so glad you get to use your A that's a relief. Any other ?s if I have any other info I'm happy to help.

Hi [COLOR=#003366]Gizelle22, not sure if you still sign in but i have a question. About a year ago i started college did horrible for the forst semester failing 4 classes art, PE, phil and u.s hist. i have retaken all those classes annow that i came back and got good grades. so, my GPA is not affected by them anymore. But will this affect my chances of getting into the cypress RN program? will they count my failing grades or my A's?
