Does your nursing program require you to wear contacts?

My eye version has gotten worst throughout the years.

I am getting prescript soon but I am not sure, glasses or contacts?

For those who do wear glasses, is it a hassle during clinical work?

    Do you mean do they require it or do you prefer it? I wear glasses. Tried to wear contacts about 7 years ago and ended up with a serious infection where I almost lost my sight in my left eye. I've gone to progressives for times when I need to get 3 different visions for distance, computer, and reading... and that includes lab. (don't wear them all the time though)

    Why not try both? See what works for you.

    I've been through nursing school and >25 years of nursing practice with glasses, never had a problem with them, and no school or employer has ever suggested that they have a preference, let alone a firm policy. It's a matter of personal choice.

    I wore contacts years ago, but had reverted back to glasses before I started nursing school -- although ordinary glasses are no substitute for the "official" eye protection goggles that are used in healthcare in situations where protection is mandated/required, I've always been v. glad to have a layer of hard plastic between my eyes and the rest of the world in nursing settings, know what I mean?? I would never consider choosing to wear contacts (and leave my eyes "exposed") in most healthcare settings.

    My specialty is psych, and I have had a few pairs of glasses broken over the years by clients who were being combative/assaultive at the time. In those cases, my employers have paid to replace the glasses. Obviously, that wouldn't have happened if I'd been wearing contacts. But I'd still much rather have the eye protection that the glasses afford day in and day out.
