My close friend takes it for what her primary care doctor describes as a low level of depression (dysthymia). She must take it at bedtime because it causes her to feel very drowsy. Otherwise, she states that she feels good on it. She describes feeling less depressed, less focused on the past, and more future-oriented.

I was on it for about 2yrs, and have been out of my depression for about 4yrs. It was a great tool that helped me focus on my schooling, and got me through a bad period of my life, that occurred in my first year of university. It really worked well for me. If you and your Dr. decided for you to ever go off the drug all together, follow the directions, it need to be done slowly. I suggest taking the week off, once you are off it. I was moody, and almost dizzy/sleepy for a week.

I take Effexor XR, I have been taking it for about 5 years.

I personally have had no real problems taking it, I have had amazing results with it...it is my "miracle" drug :)

I have gone from never leaving the house, major depression and anxiety to completing various school courses, getting a job, moving out of home, etc ...(of course I don't credit Effexor for all of this...but it certainly helped!)

I know a lot of people who will not take it, there is a stigma behind it that only "crazy" people take it ..usually these people only know of people with various acute psychological problems who have just started it..so therefore its not there schizophrenia or mania making them ill, it's the effexor
