Hi, I'm new here. I worked as a trauma nurse for 5 years after graduating from nuring school. After we started our family I decided to stay home with my kids. It's been 5 years since I've worked in an RN capacity and I'm really starting to think about going back.
Any advice for someone who's been out a long time? I've kept my CE credits up to date and would only be interested in going back into trauma. It's the love of my life and I can't imagine doing any other nursing.
On the flip side I have started working from home as a Medical Transcriptionist and sadly, I make more than I did as a nurse. But I would like to get back into the "fray" again.
Should I take some "refresher" classes or do some orientation, etc??
Thanks!!!!!

I would say take a refresher course and make sure you get a good orientation. Sorry so short, have to run, but good luck and welcome back! :)

some facilities have "re-entry" programs...I know at piedmont they have a 3 month program getting nurses up to speed educationally; then 3 months on the floor with a preceptor...i heard they are giving $6k signon bonus with 18month committment

No I didn't, but my neighbor was a GREAT TEACHER!!!! I know that they do have classes from RN to MT.
It is really nice, but I would still like to do nursing a couple days a month.
