I work in a LTC facility and nurses in my building have been terrible at ordering medications. I only work weekends, so when I come in, I'm almost always left with no medication. I hate weekends because I hate to call the doctors unless absolutely necessary due to it being an on-call MD who doesn't know our building or patients. Anyway, the other day I had to pull almost 10 medications from our back-up E-KIT box. Is it acceptable to document this in a nurses note to cover where I got the medication? and what I did obviously. Ex: Gabapentin pulled from e-kit related to depleted supply. Pharmacy notified, in process to be delivered

Generally it's not necessary as most stat box/e-kit what have you, have a form or slip that you fill out with the resident's name, med pulled, dose, etc. that goes to the pharmacy so they can restock it, however if a lot of the medications you're pulling are controlled substances than you may want to put a small note in just to be on the safe side. What I would also do is follow up with the manager, adon, or don and let them know you're having to access the stat box so much during the weekends due to nurses not reordering medications.
