Direct-Entry MSN

Published

Hello!

I’m currently a student at Quinnipiac University, graduating May 2021. Studying health sciences, with a triple minor in biology, psychology and business management.

I’m currently looking into post-grad options and am exploring the accelerated direct-entry MSN program. I was curious as to learning about some individuals experiences with this program and what schools offer it. I’ve seen a handful of schools with this program but I know there must be a ton I’m missing!

Please list any accelerated direct-entry MSN programs. If you are or a were a student of one of these programs please feel free to tell me about it.

Best,

Haylei

These are the schools that I know of that currently have programs.

John's Hopkins

Emory University

MGH

Northeastern University

Vanderbilt University

https://www.aacnnursing.org/Nursing-Education This site allows you to search for specific nursing programs across the U.S. They allow you to search under entry-level masters or advanced BSN and then you can choose a specific state or see all of the programs across the country.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi Haylei,

I am also considering accelerated direct-entry MSN programs - but am focusing on NP programs. If you are also considering MSN NP Programs, you'll want to narrow down your choices by choosing what specialty you are desiring, as you will need to make a choice when applying. Some schools offer several specialties (e.g. Vanderbilt offers Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner , Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, Nurse-Midwifery/Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner/ AGPCNP) whereas others offer a few (e.g. University of Texas offers The Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Leadership in Diverse Settings, and Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (PMHNP)). You'll want to assure the program you apply to has your desired specialty.

Some of the schools I've researched include:

Vanderbilt - https://nursing.vanderbilt.edu/MSN/prespecialty/index.php

University of Texas - https://nursing.utexas.edu/academics/graduate/degree-offered/aemsn

UCSF - https://nursing.UCSF.edu/ms-specialties-admit-students-masters-entry-program-nursing

UCLA (only offers Clinical Nurse Leader) - https://www.nursing.ucla.edu/admissions/degree-programs/MSN-masters-entry-clinical-nurse-mecn

UC Davis - https://health.ucdavis.edu/nursing/academics/programs/MSN.html

I'd also be interested in hearing other programs that offer the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, as that's what *I think* I am targeting. Sigh, so many of my statements about my future in nursing begin with "I think." LOL. So much to learn and such a big decision! Good luck.

Thanks,

Megan

I’m looking too! I’m interested in the Clinical Nurse Leader program.  Georgia has a school called Augusta University that offers it. Like you guys, I’m so tired of the rat race. I’m already a practicing LPN, but bridge programs take as long as a direct entry.?

Hi Haylei!

I double majored in Biology and Psychology in my undergrad as well!

I applied and was just accepted to some accelerated MSN/NP programs. I specifically wanted a program that would allow me to specifically be an NP and practice clinically rather than an MSN to be a nurse leader or a nurse educator. The schools I applied to with programs for direct-entry NP are:

UMass Medical School

MGH Institute of Health Professions

Northeastern University

Simmons College

Regis College

UMass's program offers a DNP at the end of the program rather than just a masters. Also, not all of the schools offer the same tracks so definitely look into each track path and that can help determining where to apply, as most will make you declare your track at the time of application.

Let me know if you have any other questions! ?
