Hi,
I'm a french nurse and I'm very interesting by the USA and I'd like to live in the USA. But I don't know if my diplôma is admitted in the USA or if I must have the TOEFL and the NCLEX ?
So, could you tell me what to do ?
Thanks

I would suggest starting by reading the thread in this forum especially sticky called Primer to working in the US and threads on retrogression as currently all nurses regardless on where they live are affected. You need to decide where you want to live and look at the requirements for foreign nurse on their nursing website. Most states require CES done by CGFNS and that is an evaluation of your transcripts and whether you meet US requirements (each BON has their own requirement) Some states do their own assessment but not many. Some states also require pass in English exam before they will let you sit NCLEX but majority don't but you will need to pass the exam for Visa Screen Certificate (vsc) unless your nurse training was performed in English. Once you have completed requirements and passed NCLEX that is the time to apply for vsc and employer who in turn will start the process but you are looking at a couple of years before you will get visa to work in the US although these days is not a guarantee that you will get a visa.
This should get you started

Your completed set of transcripts is accepted as proof that you graduated from an approved school of nursing but that is all. You need to go thru the licensure process the same as every other foreign nurse, same as if an American nurse wished to work in the your country.
You need to meet the educational requirements before you can even be given permission to sit for the NCLEX exam.
Follow what Anna has recommended to you, and best of luck to you.
