difference in as and diploma

I am taking my prereqs to get into nursing school in Jan 08, but the school I am wanting to go to offers a diploma. Can I get my bsn later with a diploma in rn? Also the school only accepts 50 students a year. What if I dont get in? What other field or classes should I take so I dont waste so much time trying to be a nurse? Thanks

You need to ensure that the school is regionally accredited if you want your credits to transfer at a later date. Regional accreditation is far more important than national accreditation. I am not referring to state approval when I refer to regional accreditation, because all nursing schools need to be approved by their state's board of nursing.

Make sure the school is accredited by one of these regional bodies: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, or the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities.

Most programs are classified as RN-to-BSN, so I would assume that they do not discriminate between ADNs and diplomas. But check with any universities that you are interested in to get the info straight from their lips.

It may be different for every school, but the diploma program I am attending has an agreement with a few four year colleges in the area so all of the nursing courses will transfer without having to repeat. Most diploma programs have some type of these programs with certain schools, but I would check with the school itself. Also, like mentioned above, many schools offer RN-BSN regardless of degree.
