Diabetes in the elderly

I have a class assignment and we have to talk to someone and get their opinion for a paper. Anyone willing to be used as a reference and answer these questions? Thank you in advance.

My topic is diabetes in the elderly Mexican American Population.

What are some current outreach strategies used with this population?

Are there local community resources that work with this population?

Are there other community resources that might help increase health awareness for this health issue?

What are the biggest challenges for health providers to address this community health issue?

Welcome to AN! Have you tried to find a nurse in your area that can help you with this assignment? One big caution about coming to an anonymous website is the fact that you can never be 100% sure that the person answering your questions has the qualifications needed in real life. It's also a lot of work for someone to sit and type out all of those answers- this is something that should be done in person so that you are the one taking notes while the person doing you the favor of being interviewed can just talk.

Resources to try: your local public health office, your own health care provider's office, local hospitals or nursing homes, etc.

Please do an actual interview with someone from your area. You have no way of verifying if we are actually nurses or some 16 yo kid with nothing better to do. You can contact your PCPs office to see if there is anyone there willing to help or contact a local endocrinologists office and see if they gave a RN diabetic educator that could meet with you. I work in primary care and have met with patients of ours that are in school for their assignments so I know it can be done.
