Delayed start

I enrolled with EC a few months ago. But with my busy work and family life and a big personal upset in my life, I'm having trouble getting started.

I admit I am weak enough to need some encouragement from someone somewhere.

Try to motivate yourself with thinking about the goal you have set. I know it's hard sometimes to keep moving, but in the end you will be sooo happy you got it done :)

Have you done any of the nursing concepts?

I've been trying to study for NC1 (off and on). I just graduated from LPN school in May so it seems like a good review. I don't know for sure how to tell when I am ready, even to take a practice test.

I plan to take a practice exam as soon as I here back from my enrollment. The practice exam will help me pinpoint any weak areas which is where I will focus my study efforts. The way I look at it, $120 (or whatever the current cost of practice exams are these days) is better than spending time reviewing material I already know. I could spend days/weeks reviewing which is far more than $120 of my time.

Can you locate someone in your area or in a neighboring state who is also just starting out? I know my study bud keeps me motivated!!!!!

I was wishy washy at the beginning and was anxious about taking my first test also. After the first test, it gets much easier! (note: not the tests, but the way to study for them and the system that works for you)

Something that helps me keep on track is to plan when I want to take the test and the subjects I must study each week in order to meet that date. Set small goals like what you want to study each day instead tackling the whole thing at once.

Once you discover what works for you - it's rather addicting! :)

You can do it! Take it one small step at a time and you'll discover that you've actually gone far!

(Practice exams are $65 for 2 different test versions of an NC course)

You're not weak--- you're so completely normal! It's hard to get up and running, especially when you just finished up with school. When you're done it's very hard to get going again. What MedicRN said is true--- it does get easier. You get used to it. And what Opalm said is true too---- find a study buddy. Even one online. I had 2 of them--- one in Utah and one in Texas (I'm in Minnesota). We all shared the same soul throughout our schooling. I can't tell you how helpful it was to go through all of that with someone else.

One more thing, and I can't stress this enough..... once you start, don't stop. It will be very hard to get going again (just like it is for you now). I found that I shouldn't have taken long breaks between exams because I just couldn't get myself to start up again. Once you have a few exams under your belt, it is easier though because you are able to see that light at the end of the exam hell tunnel. :)

Maybe set a time--- start on a certain date immediately after the holidays. it'll give you time to deal with everything that is going on now and to enjoy the holidays. Then you can give it your all.
