I have a year experience in nursing in med surg. I am having trouble deciding which specialty to go into. I have always wanted L&D or the ED and I have ended up being offered mother baby and the ED. Mother Baby is a footing towards L&D so I am torn which way I should go. If any thoughts or insight in both would be helpful. What the pros and cons would be..

Those are wildly different specialties, so it's difficult for someone else to tell you what might be a better fit for you. If you like the busy environment of med-surg then the ED might be a good fit given the very different work flow and variety of patients that you will see. Not that mother baby won't have busy times, but you're going to see a pretty specific patient population and maybe have more routine interactions. I don't have a specific list of pros and cons for you, though, since neither of those specialties are something I would ever consider but that's just me. Good luck, sounds like whatever you decide you've got some good options!

Thank you for responding. They are definitely different, I do enjoy the busy environment and always learning. I am concerned about getting in a routine on mother baby and possibly becoming bored like I did on med surg also don’t want to lose my skills.

I don't think you can "lose your skills" in any area of nursing. They all require different skill sets, but they're all important to that job. Really, nursing comes down largely to assessing and you're doing that everywhere, with every type of patient interaction. Good luck!
