I am a new grad that was blessed beyond means for getting this job. I work on a renal floor and while I love the nursing part of it, it's so different in that i'll rarely get to see them get better, do to their non-compliance and these people if they do leave, come right back. I wanted to see patients get well and be discharged, have a thing or two wrong unlike renal where everythings wrong. I'm already thinking, is this floor for me? What's my purpose if they don't listen anyway and end up coming back.

I have to differ. It is not okay to generalize that all patients, if I understand correctly the posts, are non compliant. There are many reasons for non compliance and perhaps finding out why the patient does not follow a diet, or why they do whatever it is might be where to start and maybe that will help a patient. I know there are patients that no matter what will be non compliant,,, but there might be a reason for many and you might be the one to get someone to be compliant. good luck.
Your right...I hope I can make that difference. :)
NewbieKim, you will make the difference, ... it just takes one to make a difference... Just do not let yourself get caught up in the thinking that many have who have, what I call, gotten hard..... Indeed, as I stated, there are many reasons for noncompliance in patients but the key is finding the reason why... If you just help one patient to be compliant you are great.. one leads to another and another. Too many nurses take it for granted that if a pt is noncompliant they just label that patient... but there is always a reason.
