I work in private duty nursing and am considered a private contractor by the agency that hired me. Tonight I got a needle stick from an insulin shot I gave the patient, who also has cirrhosis of the liver (I don't know for sure why but I am going to assume hepatitis C.) I know that facility procedure is to write up an incident report and draw blood for an array of tests, but being considered a private contractor does anyone know what the policy would be if I wanted to be tested?

I'm sorry this happened to you too. I think the agency must have some liability coverage for you. If you need medical help later on, you need to at least report it. I'd be interested in hearing what you find out. Good luck.

Report it ASAP. Fill out the first report of injury (if required by your state). Get yourself set up for testing (Hepatitis & HIV). Test again in six weeks. If HIV is an issue, you may need to test a 3rd time after three months.
My thoughts are with you. I went through a needlestick issue (an HIV + patient, no less) myself several years ago. I've never been so proud to be negative in all my life!
