Hi fellow nurses,
Anyone familiar with downtown Dallas? What areas to avoid ...? I am looking to rent a studio apt./ 1BR beginning of next year. Any recommendations?
I am new to the area, relocating for a new position at BUMC, I prefer walking distance if possible .. According to Google it is a shady area, but hard to tell from Google street view pics .. Public transportation?
All input appreciated! ??

Welcome, I worked at BUMC for nearly 10 years and can safely say you do not want to be walking to work. It's a very shady area, during my tenure there were several assaults/muggings on staff walking to/from their car. Many female staff members had security walk them to the garage at shift change. Sorry I cannot recommend a place to rent as I lived in the Uptown area and drove in to work. The public transportation system is the DART system and has a train that drops off at the hospital.

@Dallas_RN This is a topic which probably interests a lot of new grads/nurses. Not sure if you know the general area well or not, but do you have recommendations on any outside cities/areas where it is safe to live and close to DART?
For example, I'd imagine there are plenty of new grads/staff taking positions at BUMC, but may not have a car right away. Are there cities outside the loop which are safe and public transportation friendly?
Thank you for your input!
I have heard bad things about the DART also, not sure of it is true.
I ended up renting in downtown, and yes you were right! Walking to and from work, or should I say speed walking ... Hear stories at work about female staff almost being kidnapped and dragged into a van on their way to their car. It is a very shady area indeed.
