Hello all!
This is my first time on this type of a page. By that I mean for school. I am taking prereq's for Nursing, and am doing my best, but curious about books. My fin-aid wasn't so friendly so having to find other resources. Does anyone think/know if it's okay to use or find another "edition", copyright yr to use for school? Feeling paranoid. I am supposed to get an A&P book that is $250 and am trying to save so if anyone has suggestions, I am open!! Thanks a million, fellow nurses!

I would suggest trying an older edition....maybe the previous year's. Your professor can probably tell you if the content is the same, which is often the case. The older editions in my experience are usually much cheaper. Have you tried Amazon for used books. You might be able to get a used one of the edition you need for much cheaper too. Good luck.

I would email your professor and ask him/her if an older edition is okay. Also, have you tried half.com or Amazon? I got my Anatomy book for $100 on Half... It would have otherwise cost me about $200 at the bookstore.

Just found a great site yesterday - valorebooks.com
You can rent or buy really cheap.
Typically older editions are OK, also. And SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.

Also, if you want to consider it, a lot of places are offering textbook rentals. The main one that I know of is Chegg.com. I personally haven't used it yet, but I've been told by friends that do use it that it is awesome. You are even allowed to highlight in the text if you need to. (They also plant trees for each book you rent!) If you think renting is a possibility, you might want to check it out. It is a cheaper option than buying textbooks, depending on what kind of deals you find at the moment.

Sometimes, you don't need textbooks when you study bio (though it helps a lot!). I had an older version of my A&P textbook before but there wasn't that much of a difference though. Although you have to take note of the values more carefully since it changes too and you don't wanna screw that up. During exams, my professor would test us more based from "his notes". That's why I always make sure that I know what his notes focused more about.
I have an old Chemistry book that cost over $200 new that I got for $4.50. Chemistry is chemistry is chemistry. Unless you're doing exercises from the book itself, most textbooks for science courses will contain the material you need to learn.

First I check the school library. They usually have the books but u can only rent them for like 7-10 days.I just keep on renting them,or I study with them in the library. If its a subject that I REALLY need to study all day then I would talk to the Proff about other editions(they usually have copies at their house that u can borrow)..next stop would be to compare the Amazon cost With the rental price at Chegg. I can usually rent a book from Chegg for 45-75 for the whole semester.

I have been using Amazon and love it! I have gotten used copies that are in great condition for half the price, and then I turn around and sell any textbooks I don't want to keep and usually make all my money back.

PS - Amazon has a service called "amazon student" where you get a free year of Amazon prime w/your .edu email address... gets you free 2-day shipping on things offered through Amazon :) doesn't help if you're buying on Amazon.com through another vendor but Amazon has had most things I need to buy!!

Again, go in and speak with your instructor. Unless they have recently revamped their whole program, you can usually get away with using and older edition. The page numbering may be off but it is basically the same info. Our nursing program (which has nothing to do with your A&P, just using as an example) changed publishers for the entire program and so for us, there were no older editions of the textbooks.
