Jan 4, 201115 yr Has anyone else applied? What do you feel your prospects are of getting in? Did you take any foreign languages to plump up your supplemental criteria score?
Feb 4, 201115 yr Hi there, Im thinking of applying myself , I'd only have 27. A friend of mine that applied has 28 and another of hers has 26. Really depends on the numbers this year so guess we'll see. I've heard it's super competitive tho and like a lot of students there apply. That's just hearsay tho. Id like to apply to cottage health, I think the cost of the program alone will turn people away. You've really got to be willing to go in on the loans for that one.
Feb 4, 201115 yr Hi I just applied yesterday, Im hoping I do have a good chance of getting in I have 33 points. I think the supplemental criteria really helps boost points so definitely take a foreign language course or health care experience. Good luck to everyone!
Feb 4, 201115 yr Author It's definitely competitive... If you haven't been to an informational meeting, check one out. If you have Microsoft Powerpoint you can view exactly what they talk about/show you during a meeting by clicking on the appropriate link on this page: http://nursing.csuci.edu/nursing_info_session.htm When I went to the meeting they stated that the "historical" point cut-off score was 29, but was upped to 33 last year... but Alison, you are right... it definitely depends on the applicant pool!
Mar 13, 201115 yr i go to CSUCI and i've gone in and talked to them a few times since apps went in and from what i hear its gonna get a lot more competitive this yearthan it ever has I talked to them a week before apps went in and they said that they already had over five hundred apps (they've never had over three hundred apps in a semester) AND they'd already gotten five applicants who had 40 points. I have 36 points right now but i know a lot of people who are in the same point range as me. From what they've told me though letters should be sent out around the 5th, so i guess we'll find out in three weeks...
Mar 13, 201115 yr Author Yikes...I'm glad I decided to take that Spanish 3 course last semester! That bumped me from 35 points to 41. I had a feeling it was going to become more competitive given the economy and everyone returning to school, but daaaaaaaaaaang!
Mar 15, 201115 yr While these are all good things to know for those applying next year you have to stop and think.....how many of those 500 will actually be eligible (get into csuci) and what the average points is for everyone else besides the 4 people that had over 40? Honestly I think when they said it was going to be more competitive it was meant in terms of the number of applicants. I know someone at CC that applied but didn't get into CI. She has awesome grades but didn't complete the necessary transfer work correctly. So really 500 is just a number. Don't stress. Some of those higher numbers might decline if they get offers somewhere else.
Apr 5, 201115 yr So are we going to find out tomorrow if we are accepted or not?! I hope so this wait is so nerve-wrecking!Good Luck to everyone!
Apr 5, 201115 yr Author I hope so... If you know your points, it isn't hard to figure based on historical point cut-offs, etc. But, I would much rather have the piece of paper in hand! I went to an informational meeting about 2 or 3 weeks ago and ---- (the program director) said that it looked like the point cut-off was going to be 35 this year.
Apr 6, 201115 yr I emailed nursing.... They said letters went out yesterday... So hopefully well find out today or tomorrow :)
