I got my letter today and I did not get into nursing school. I was so very surprised. My total GPA is a 3.8 and I got a 94 on the TEAS. I had all of my sciences completed except for micro (which is not even required before applying) which I am taking this semester. I will get an A in this class as well. I know it's competitive, but I really thought I would make the cut. I don't know how I could improve my grades. I make almost all straight A's while raising a family and having a life. I feel like I've worked so hard and now...
I feel so humiliated. Now I'm going to have to tell everyone I didn't make it. Even the counselors I saw in the nursing department said I had a great shot. I just don't understand. I know I can re-apply but if I can't make it in with these grades, what's the point? I am absolutley crushed.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you apply?

I am so sorry to hear about that! Don't take it personally- you will get in! Where did you apply to? Is it a school that adds points onto your GPA if you took the pre-req classes there?
If it's a school that takes people every semester (meaning, there's a new class in the spring), try applying again this winter- I hear the chances are much better getting in then. Dont give up!

I'm in the DFW area. Many of the community colleges around here will absolutely not accept anyone who has science courses "in progress," regardless of how high their grade point average might be.
My coworker had a 4.0 grade point average and wonderful test scores when Tarrant County College rejected her for being enrolled in a science class. You've basically gotta complete all the prereqs and have your ducks in a row prior to applying.
I'm sorry about the disappointing news. Keep trying, and keep up the hope.

I second that! And don't give up.
Even though Micro is also not "required" (nor is A&P II) for where I applied, there are just SO many applicants who have all of their classes completed that without it, there's almost NO chance of getting in.
It seems that completing ALL of the pre-requisites, and then having to "wait it out" a semester seems to be the norm. I will be done with ALL of my classes in 4 weeks, yet won't be able to start nursing school until January.
Hang in there! And try again in the fall! That's what I am going to do.

I know the feeling... going through the same thing... hang in there keep applying.. maybe get your cna ? I did and got hired on in ER... it rocks...
Thank you all so much for your encouraging words. I'm not going to give up. I'll apply again in the fall, TCC. I'm at peace with it now. It just took me a day to let it sink in and then deal with it. This will give me a semester to take some classes that will apply toward my BSN. I really feel that everything happens for a reason and it just wasn't meant to be this semester. Anyway, my youngest will be starting Kindergarten this fall. It will give me a chance to be active at her school and make sure she's adjusting well. It's also the first time that I will be able to take a full load. I'm excited to finally be able to go to school during the day. I've had to do everything else at night because my children were at home. It's all good. Thanks again and congrats to those of you who got in for the fall. I wish you all the best!!
