CRNA school and grades

Published

I'm currently thinking about going to CRNA school and have some questions about grades. I went to multiple schools and am unsure as to whick grades will count or impact me the most. I started off at a 4 year university where I took most of my sciences. I finished with a GPA 2.8-3. I then went to a nursing diploma program w/ a BSN abridge program. I finished my diploma nursing program and BSN bridge program w/ around a 3.8 GPA. I took all my nursing classes there. I finished with an A in Research and Advanced Pharm. I was wondering what GPA and grades would be factored in the most. I know programs want transcripts from all schools. Would it bode well I improved greatly from one school to another? Should I look into retaking classes from my first school? What GPA would they take most into consideration? My most previous school? Any help would be greatly appreciated

How are your science grades? Programs look at those courses closely. Grades in BSN completion programs don't count for much-often those completion programs don't have very high standards. Nursing grades are important.

They'll like your 3.8 BSN, A in adv pharm, and subsequent good grades. However, if most of your sciences are in the 2.8-3 range, you will most likely have to re take at least SOME of them. My school looked at overall GPA and science GPA separately. So overall, I had like a 3.5~, but my science was like a 2.8. I had an extremely similar course through school with similar grades and to be competitive I retook 2 out of the 4 sciences I had Cs in (they need proof you can handle the material, and by retaking them you can show that it was your youth or whatever and not your abilities that caused the lower grades), and if I didn't get in on my first round of applications, I was going to retake the other 2 to replace them with As. Look into your community colleges for the most cost effective way to do this. My .02!

My grades are fairly similar actually. I got a D in chemistry the first time and ended up finishing an associate degree nursing program with a Cumulative GPA of 2.8. I then went back to get my BSN and retook undergrad Chem, undergrad statistics, and finished BSN with 3.85 GPA. Got accepted no problem at one of my first choice schools as well as a couple other interviews.

My best advice is:

Take a careful look at the requirements for each school. Some clearly state they want to see a certain GPA in the last 60 credit hours, a certain GPA in nursing and science, or a certain GPA cumulative. I concentrated on schools that wanted to see the last 60 credit hours due to my recent GPA being so much higher. I retook the classes I didn't do well just so schools knew I was serious and that I could learn or re-learn information well.

Best of luck!
