Hey there!
I have a question re credit/criminal background check. I have no criminal record. I had bad credit 10 or so years ago but eventually was able to pay things off and, then later, came into a bit of money and paid off 20K in student loans and a 3K credit card. My question is this- I lived in Europe for 5 years. I have been back for 1.5 years (3 years by the time I start nursing school). I have no criminal record there but I went through a nasty divorce that messed up my credit a bit. Do these agencies do checks overseas or do they just focus their search here? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I had to build my credit when I moved overseas; seems to be the same thing here? I have been out of work for over a year now. I am volunteering and looking for work but the recession...

I discussed this with an employer one time when background checks were done after the fact. I was told that if there were any problems coming back on someone's background check, that hiring/firing/retention decisions would be made on a case by case basis. In most cases, "normal" info is not held against someone.
