Ok, here's the deal... I have 2 children (5 and 9months) my husband is a farmer, am I crazy for wanting to go back to nursing school? I have been a cna for about 10 yrs. BUT I have worked as a dental assistant for 8 of those. For the most part, I make pretty good money. BUT, my new baby has been relatively sick, and my boss has been less than nice about me missing work. Even threatening my job if I should have to miss again. (Of course all of my absents have been dr excused!) If and when I get into nursing school, however, I will quit my job. This (of course) will put us down to one income. Sorry this post is so long, I just want to make sure I am making the right decision. So.... U think I am crazy? I really believe that nursing is my passion and my true calling:)

I am a former Dental Hygienist and am on 2 wait lists for an RN. Dentists are the worst control freaks, and if he is a solo practitioner, his world and office needs are the only thing that counts(to him). If you are busy raising small children, consider working for a larger Dental group where absents arent so noticeable. Heck yes go to nursing school. There is so much more variety in nursing than just suctioning spit and tooth dust!!!

No one can make that decision except for you, really. Even if a bunch of people on here said no, they could be all wrong or vice versa because it is a very personal decision. Some things I can give you to think about: what type of risks are you willing to take? Will your family be able to live on one income? What are your reasons for wanting to be a nurse - never do it for money and the so called "nursing shortage" alone because they are laying off nurses right now everywhere. It will get better though in a few years is my guess. Have you shadowed a nurse or done informationals to know the good and the bad that come with nursing? Do you want to be a nurse simply because you hate your current job or is because it's what you really want to do? Are you prepared to spend your days studying at home with your kids wanting your attention and still be able to focus on all those science courses? Are you willling to take the risk that you might be on 1-2 yr. waiting list for nursing schools even if you have As and Bs? If after you've looked at all these questions, and still want to be a nurse, I would say yes, go for it. I did :)
