Crappy preceptor!

So I just started my first CNA position at a rehab hospital, and my preceptor is taking advantage of me and instead of training me is just having me do all of her work while she sits at the nurses station and talks. Should I say something to the supervisor? I hate to cause problems already but I also hate being taken advantage of!

You know, I had this happen to me just a few months ago when I started my new job. My trainer was terrible. Since I've been a CNA for a while and wanted to avoid conflict, I didn't say anything, but now I wish I would have.

Since this is your first CNA job, you really need proper training to make you comfortable in your position. I think you should definitely say something to the supervisor. You don't have to do it tattletale style, you could just tell her that you don't feel like you're being properly trained, or perhaps ask if you could be assigned to a new trainer. If she asks why, explain to her what is happening.

I know what you mean about not wanting to cause trouble, but making sure new hires get the training they should not only makes a better work environment for you, but for the patients as well. If you don't, it'll probably bother you afterwards, like it does me!

If you are letting her take advantage of you now, she will continue to take advantage of you in the future. I've seen it before -- a new CNA does another CNA's work because they want to be friendly or they don't want to cause conflict. The pattern just keeps repeating itself and gets worse as time goes on. Nip this in the bud now!!
