CPS flag

Hi! I hope I'm putting this in the right place, but I've been wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. I'm trying to apply for RN by exam, and I had to consent to the Adam Walsh background check. More than 10 years ago DCF got involved with my family because my (now) ex-husband assaulted  my infant, apparently a couple times. It was completely unknown to me, as I was at work when it happened, but she appeared sick, so I was bringing her to her pediatrician and the ER several times; it was only after my ex said she fell off the bed, that the ER finally did a CT, and found subdural hematomas. Very obviously, DCF got involved, initially took custody (I got custody back at the 72 hour hearing, after my ex confessed and I filed for separation). Because it took so long for him to confess, DCF treated us both as perpetrators and supported the Care and Protection. He was ultimately  charged and convicted of his crimes, and my child is doing really great these days with no residuals (thank god!!!). 

Any way... apparently my name came up on the DCF registry as being part of a protective services case, and now my application for licensure by exam is under review. With Good Moral Character, there is a list of items that the Board wants, but there is absolutely no information for individuals who show up on the Registry but have no criminal history. Does anyone know how long the review will take, or what they might want for documentation? I'm trying to pace myself studying for the NCLEX, and wonder if they will even let me? (I assume I'm listed as "neglectful" for "failing to keep the child safe", which I already feel sooo much guilt for, even though I was at work when it happened.) As additional info, I do currently work with children, and my history has never been a problem...

    Yes, you'll get an email saying you withdrew. You will have to call Pearsonvue and pay $50 to change the state. Then you follow the directions of whatever state you're applying in.

    Update: I took the NCLEX and passed! RI is a compact state so I can work in other compact states as well!

    Congratulations!! You did it! I started the application for New Hampshire yesterday.

    So today is April 1st and still no word from the BON. I applied for my initial license back in May 2023 (never heard back). I was able to apply to another state and obtain my RN license. So I applied for reciprocity in December of 2023, still no date to meet with the BON. Defeated is under an understatement!

    I am sorry to hear that. Are you currently working in another state

    Yes, thank God! Still, we're talking basically a year for an answer?

    Yea I know that's crazy. I'm going to apply in New Hampshire and I pray everything goes smoothly.

    When dealing with BORN? You should have been assigned an investigator/caseworker. I had my investigators' email and was able to communicate directly with them. Did you ever receive a letter?

    Yes, and every time I speak with her she just responds and says either the applications are processed in the order received or please allow some time to review. That's all I ever get!

    Wow! BORN spends only one day each month reviewing all BORN cases. Caseworker should be able to at least give a timeline. Wonder who came up with this humiliating process and how many nurses actually have not been approved.

    That's what I've been trying to figure out. Like give me some hope! LOL

    Hey ! 
    Has anyone heard back from board? I graduated May this year, knew of the CPS case against me. After my application I reached out to GMCLiasion and asked what I needed to send in. Got all of it sent in and then someone else got in contact with me was told to revise 2 things and did. After today I had asked this person directly what's the process to withdraw and apply to test in a different state, and although it was a back and forth email I finally was told that due to the CPS flag that it will be presented Infront of the board. They have no meetings in August apparently. But I'd say if you have anyone's email that's on the board keep emailing them. At the end of the day it's you that needs it not them. They only reached out to me twice on what I had to revise other than that it's been me pressing them.
