CPR/First Aid Training

Hi, so I will be starting my CNA training program next week and so I have been trying to prepare myself by reading my textbook before the class starts. Today, I read a chapter about first aid and emergency care. It stated that they recommend taking a CPR/first aid certification class from the American Red Cross. Is this really necessary? Isn't that part of the CNA certification process? I'm just really confused! I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out and give me a little bit of guidance here. Thanks! :)

usually before you start your class, they require background checks, health clearance and CPR certificate

What you learn as part of your CNA training depends on what state you are in. What really matters is weather your future employer wants you to be CPR certified or not. I got mine because one of the places I wanted to apply at required it.

my facility does not recognize Red Cross certifications. We only recognize American Heart Asso. and we provide the class free to our staff. I doubt that the certification is part of your course, but they may offer it, and if so, be sure to take it.AHA has various levels of "CPR". We offer Heartsaver-AED for unlicensed staff (like you). Good luck!

My CNA class didnt teach CPR, I doubt many do. Its expected you will do that on your own. If I remember right it was a requirement prior to taking the class. Some CNA jobs might not even require it, although If a facility doesnt even trust a CNA to do any CPR, even if its just chest compressions, they probably dont treat their CNAs well or pay them very well.

In my class in the state of Tennessee they only recognized AHA CPR training for healthcare providers!

The hospitals in my town require AHA certification for CPR, so when I took my CNA class, I paid a little extra to have an AHA card instead of NSC or some other company.
