Coverletter?????

Probably a silly question, but did you send a cover letter with your resume when sending in your apps to school? The only reason I ask is because anything I would put in a cover letter, I have put in the essay. I didn't want it to be repetitive. I am really not sure what do put, but I want it to be good. Just wanted your thoughts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I personally did not supply a coverletter. I agree with you about the repetitive part. I think a great essay along with your resume is sufficient.

If I wrote one I would keep it limited to an introduction letter that is about one paragraph other than a cover letter.

This will demonstrate to the recruiter writing skills (which is getting to be a tough thing to find these days), and that you took that additional step to introduce yourself.

Be sure to not include any information that you wouldn't otherwise put on a resume or job application such as if you have children, marital status, references to daycare if you have chlidren. (yeah, people really do this).

Just stick with the interests of the job.

I have read a new thing that some people are doing, they are having a very professional picture (face shot)..to put with the resume 'so you can put a face with a name'...I have heard this is extremely effective in getting your resume to jump out.

Thanks for the help. I didn't think I would really need one but the nurse educator at work said "make sure you have a good cover letter" Up to that point I hadn't planned on writting one either. I have just been so anal about this whole process. I really want to get into school this year!!

Yes think of a position that you really want... I think first volunteering is good as welll. and starting out at the bottom maybe a nursing home. . First an intro letter is great for you... then a cover letter along with a resume... Try to make it outstanding the intro letter of yourself... and then follow it up with a great cover letter.. and then at the end a thank you letter or something ... it should be in transitions to keep their interest and then they will hire you...
