Couple of questions...

I'm an undergrad male pursuing a BSN. I seem to have a lot of free time in the week after studying. What can I do that will enhance my resume so it is attractive to future employers? What are the must-have skills or certifications, besides BCLS and ACLS? Also, I'm short on money and on a loan, so I'm looking for advice on scholarships or other grant options.

I'm bilingual (English/Spanish) with good grades, and pretty sturdy if that matters.

Shadowing and volunteering come to mind. Gives you some insight, experience, and helps you make connections. Contact your local hospital volunteer department. Also, free/community clinics. I helped with patient registration at a free immunization clinic--they were desperate for volunteers. Check with the Red Cross for other opportunities.

I am sure there are plenty of others who have done some major leg work in these areas who will have even more ideas.

getting a job as a tech in your area of interest is a good way to get your foot in the door.. the hospital i do my clinicals at said they will hire new grads into specialties, but about 95% of them were already working on the floor as a tech while in nursing school... and its a double bonus, because youll be making some cash.

ps- the bilingual will definitely help!

Thank you all for your answers. I'll look into the tech jobs and volunteering!
