The nurse is providing discharge instructions to an older client recovering from a fractured hip. He is planning to stay with his son, who is included in the intervention. Which statement would indicate good understand of the instructions? Select all that apply.
A) I have signed a contract with Lifeline.â€
B) I can help out my son with housework while I'm staying.â€
C) I've borrowed a toilet seat riser from the equipment closet.
D) I will be sure to take oxycodone before I go downstairs in the morning.â€
E) We are replacing the carpet with laminate flooring.â€

Which ones do you think are wrong or right and why? We are happy to help students with questions, but we want to hear your thoughts first.

Let's cross some out that make no sense regarding the situation.
B - I don't believe someone recovering from a hip replacement needs to be doing extensive housework
D - Oxycodone is not something you want to take before maneuvering stairs
E - Maybe not the best time to replace carpet because if he falls with a hip replacement he's gonna have problems
Those are the ones that stand out to me.
I think this would be a correct answer because lifeline can help the client in the event of an emergency, like a fall, if no one is around to help.
The client should be doing exercises to help with the recovery, but not housework. So I would say this would not be a choice.
The raised toilet seat can help assist the patient and making sure they do not flex their hip greater than 90 degrees. So this would be correct.
The oxycodone should not be taken before going down the stairs because the client may become dizzy and could fall. So this is not a correct answer.

The client should not be helping with replacing the flooring during recovery of a fractured hip.
Thank you! I will do this for any future questions I have, it gets me thinking more.
I agree with your rationales also, thank you for your input! It is much appreciated! :)
No problem! Yours look good.
