Corrections or stick it out??

OK, a little about me first.

I have been a LVN for over 2 years in pedi HH and in LTC. I recently (3 weeks ago) started working med/surg and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. The thing is the hours. 7-7 nights. I miss my kids and can not seem to get a grip on myself, my sleep pattern, or anything.

Looking thru the paper Sunday, there are several positions available at the local jail. Less money (about 100 a week) but the hours are 7-3 m-f,and every third weekend. WOW. not bad.

I worked corrections as a correctional officer for about 4 years, so I know what to expect. I also know that it will be stressful.

I am in EC getting my RN, and expect to have my RN by June/July. There I will go directly into case management for the pedi HH I work at now.

I have a mental yes/no list, and to be honest the corrections is looking better and better because of the hours. Yesterday, I saw my kids for about 1 hour because of sleep and work.

What would you do?

Your kids are super important and I think that that time with them is important. Personaly, I think you shold take the job esp. if the pay cut doesn't hurt too bad.

The jail isn't as bad as the prison depending on where you live.

Also, you'll only have to do this for less than a year. I say go for it!

Thanks Muf and jamangel. I appreciate y'all.

Do you already have your test date for the CPNE? Takes about 4-6 weeks after completing everything to get your diploma and then another 4-6 weeks to get a test date for your Boards. Means you have to have a test date in March for the CPNE to have your RN by June or July. I point this out because you might have longer at a job than you think. With that in mind, the job at the jail seems more doable for the long haul than what you are doing now with the 7-7.
