Coppin State

Does anyone know if it's just as competitive to get into Coppin State's Nursing program verses others in the state (or area)? I was under the impression that if you got the GPA and high enough score on the entrance exam then you would get in. But I don't know. How easy/hard is it?

I am in the nursing program at Coppin & it is very competitive because majority of the students male and female are there for the nursing program. If u have a 3.5 gpa you do get automatic entry regardless of the test score you have to exhaust all your test attempts 1st though and you get 2 time to take the test however they are restructuring the program so that the test scores dont weigh so heavily on a persons ability to enter the program

How soon would you think that someone would need to apply for the program? Like of course not wait until the deadline but do you think once the program starts to open for registration for the program a lot of people will apply leaving next to nothing for those who have to wait until closer to the deadline? Does that makes sense?

How is the program there by the way? Where do you do your clinicals?

Truthfully I think the earlier the better because you do not want to get caught in the last minute rush. I experienced that last semester. Especially if you are coming in on sophmore level which means that you can take clinicals. Because there is a lot of things you have to get in order before fall semester starts like physicals, immunizations, flu shot, background check etc. So if you have all your reference letters and applications done turn them in now. Next, the program is difficult even in the beginning stages and kind of slow but if your coming in fall of 2011 then it might not be so slow because a lot of changes are slated to take effect then. Finally, starting clinicals are in the local nursing homes(fundamentals) all the other ones I don't know yet but I think they are in the hospital.

Wow. That's very interesting. I am starting a PCT program in January at AACC. Then I have one more year of prereqs and then hopefully I will start Coppin as a sophmore by August 2012. I know that's a long way away and I will start apply next year. Maybe by the summer. I want to wait though before getting my physical and stuff because they are only good for one year I think. I have all of my immunizations except the meningitis which I think is required (but I thought that was only if you stay on campus which I won't be). I'm hoping to be able to work at a local nursing home before starting nursing school but idk yet. Anyway, that's all irrelevant. I can't wait to start nursing school (even though it seems kind of far away). Good luck to you!

Hello. I'm a little late in the game, but I wanted to know how long did it take to find out you were accepted into the program or were asked to take the entrance exam? I really want to get in I just applied and feel like pins and needle. My gpa is 2.97 and that's not including what I will get this spring semester. I thank you in advance.

Hotyoungmom-

you have to take the teas test and they only do admission at this point once a year plus there are certain classes you have to take before you are admitted. This is all apart of the new curriculum.

Yes, I am aware of that. They just received my transcript for general admission and I'll know soon if I was admitted to the college then I'll find out if they want me to take the Teas Test. Keeping Faith in God

That's great... So you know about the nursing classes that you have to take that are outside of the program, they are like nursing informatics, nursing ethics, and some others I'm not sure of, I am in the old program but I have a few friends that are in the new program...I just think that those are the ones that you need prior to entry...

Is it hard to get into the nursing program?

Im not afraid of getting into the College but its the nursing program. That a concern

Understandable just try your best to get your grades a little higher... You still have spring semester and really study for the teas..I have heard it is a difficult test and I don't know if they still have the 3.5 rule...automatic entry for 3.5 gpa so your best bet right now is a good teas score and good grades...
