I am a new student going into nursing after 32 years and need help with understanding' how to think' when doing conversions.
For example:
Your child needs to take 1 teaspoon of cough syrup three times a day. How long would 12 fluid ounces last? (There are 8 ounces in a cup).
I'm sure there is an easy way to think this thru after 30 some years I just cant pull it together.
Thank-You for your help and understanding:heartbeat:bugeyes:

1 us tablespoon = 0.5 us fluid ounces
there fore it will last 24 doses
then you need to think is the medicine every 8 hours (3 times a day) or is it every 6 hours (4 times a day)
than you calculate, if it is aevery 8 hours it will last 8 days, and if it is every 6 hours it will last 6 days for 12 oz to be consumed! based on a dose o 1 tb spoon!!!
hope i could help!

1 us teaspoon = 0.166666667 us fluid ounces
so if you are talking about teaspoon servings on 12 oz you will have 75 doses.
since 0.16 oz (1 teaspoon) divided by 12oz is equal to 75 doses. then you can deal with it depending on how many doses per day as i explained on the post above!
hope i helped ya!

CSantos has been great with this answer, but I can help with one conversion.
3 tsp. = 1 tbsp.
1 tbsp. = 1/2 ounce
2 tbsp. = 1 ounce
I think the 3 tsp equals 1 tbsp is easier than the decimal conversion...but that's just me!
