Contact Precautions Question

Hello, quick question for you all!

How do you explain contact precautions to visitors as to not violate patient privacy? For example, my patient has c-diff, MRSA, VRE, etc... But you cannot tell just anyone about that. How do you explain it?

Thanks!!!

I just tell them that the patient is on isolation and they need to follow the precautions. You don't need to give the details of why.

I agree 100%. All the visitor needs to know is that the patient they're visiting is on isolation and if the visitor wants to go in the room, they must follow the precautions posted. No precautions = no entry. Follow the precautions = entry OK! I'm not going to violate the patient's privacy. If the visitor wants to know exactly why, they can ask the patient...
