Hello to all the nurses here on the site! i am brand new and have a few questions. I am now training to become a CNA and am wanting to continue my training to become an LPN or RN. My question is, who gives the Iv's and draws the blood, and is there a big difference in the jobs, besides the pay? I am a little leary of IVs and blood drawing and want to know if there are any tips or tricks to get over the fear.
Thanks
Luci.

Hi Luci,
Both LPNs and RNs can draw blood but depending on where you practice RNs usually start IVs. You will get training to help you and it is largely a matter of practice to become comfortable hitting a vein. Good luck.

Yes, there is a difference between a LPN, ASN-RN, and a BSN-RN. A BSN curriculum focus on research and have less clinical hours than ASN. I was afraid of IV's as well, but its a piece of cake, the hardest part is feeding the catheter through the vein. I would suggest that you go for your BSN. If not then go for the others and bridge over.
