Conflict of interest

Hi all,

Is it a conflict of interest to provide private duty nursing for a client that I know from a home health agency I currently work for? The agency I work for does not provide private duty shift nursing service, only intermittent home visits. Any assistance, shared experience is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Are you talking about doing business "on the side" or through another agency?

If your current agency is okay with it, that's your answer.

I went to a new client one night for Agency B that I discovered received care from my other agency that I worked for. I emailed the manager, and because the hours for Agency B weren't taking away from the hours billed for Agency A, there was no conflict.

Thank you for your response. This would be on the side and it is for service that my current agency does not provide. I will check in with my current agency before I decide to move forward with it. Thanks, again!

If you're not going to be working through an agency, I recommend you tread VERY carefully. You'll be responsible for liability insurance and employment taxes, among other things.

Read your agency contract.

In my experience with home care and agencies we have been informed that taking their clients on for private work is considered stealing business even if services aren't the same as they provide.
