Hello,
I am very seriously considering travel nursing, I have many years of experience in med surg, med tel and the last nine in a small ICU and ER float. My worry if I start travel is the computer system requirements. More and more job postings I am seeing state certian computer system experience is a must for travel nurses. One of the big ones I see is EPIC . Is there any way to get around this ? Or will I have great difficulty getting assignments because of lack of computer charting skills with specific systems? Despite my 20 plus years in nursing?

I think it wouldn't exclude you exactly but if you haven't worked with a certain system and another has, they might go for that nurse first. As long as you pick up quick and have done some type of computer charting before, you will probably be fine. It wasn't a hinderance for me. You could always call and talk to a nurse recruiter and ask her. I can give you my lady's number if you want, she is awesome!

You basically have to get used to computerized charting and pick it up quickly...there is no way around it.

Don't worry about the computer system. I have used several different ones in the course of travels. You will get the hang of it.

You will do fine. Don't let that hold you back. Some hospitals will give you a computer class orientation. Some have given me a full 8 hr class. When all else fails default to the "nurses notes". That's my strategy.

Thanks for the replies , but how do you get the agencies to hire you when they are listing the specific computer system ?
"Agencies" don't hire you. You sign with them and if they have a position for you that meets your needs and the client's needs you will interview. You are always an at-will employee. One job they have may require previous experience with a specified EMR system another may not. Obviously, if they require EPIC experience and you only have CERNER you would not choose to be submitted for that particular job.
