Computer Class : Windows 7?

Published

In order to be full time student, I have to enroll 12 units.

I have been going through classes and nothing interests me (I am done with pre reqs and will start clinicals in Fall 2015)

I am interested in Computer class. So there was Windows 7 class. It's basic concept and how to use Windows 7 properly.

If I am on the floor, do we get to use Windows 7?

Is it worth taking this class?

Oh god, no. Please don't pay for a Windows 7 class. If you HAVE to take some computer class to fill some requirement, take one on Office that includes Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. (Excel spreadsheets can be very basic or very complex.) Windows 7 is super simple & Windows 8 is already out.

I had to take a computer class & chose a basic computer science class that taught me all about Microsoft Office. I am pretty good with computers so the class just taught me some shortcuts & ways to make papers/spreadsheets/presentations look better.

I already took that. I am trying to look for classes that might help me towards nursing career.

This is the goal of this class:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Explain the function of the essential hardware components of a computer system

2. Identify the major elements of a computer operating system and explain their functions

3. Describe the differences between application and system software and list examples in each category

4. Identify what impact the graphical user interface (GUI) has on routine computer work

5. Recognize and use the various features for manipulating Windows (menus, title bars, dialog and message boxes, cascading menus, dragging and dropping, pop-up menus, icons and toolbars)

6. Define and use the basic functions of the Desktop

7. Explain and use the features provided in Windows Explorer

8. Identify features of Control Panel and utilize it to customize the Desktop

9. Explain and use basic command line prompt commands (DOS)

10. Explain and use the features of system maintenance

11. Explain the basic concepts of connectivity

on the floors you use electronic health records (EHR, EMR systems). the class for that would be informatics, but thats a nursing course, not a normal tech class. windows 7 is easy so that would be an easy A

Since you are done with your pre-req are you allowed to sit out until your clinicals start? I am just asking because I hear a lot of posters in your situation. At my school if you start out as a freshman whenever you met the requirements to start clinicals you get first priority and are guarenteed placement with no wait. This is something they just started this coming fall.

The only thing I can think of is something along the lines of nursing informatics (as Fireman767 said). My school offers one but you must already be in the nursing program. So I don't know what your school could necessarily offer in the area of computers for nursing.

If you have to take another class & want something to help you with a nursing career, look at psychology, healthcare Spanish, medical terminology, nutrition, healthcare administration or public policy, or a technical writing course. These are all helpful.

I am taking this since it looks an easy A. Plus I am getting my AS degree (since I only need one class). Most psychology class conflicts with the class I will be taking.

Thank you for your two cents as well. :)

I have to be a full time student due to my circumstances. I wish I can enjoy 1 year break before I start my clinicals. :)
