Comparing prereqs to nursing school

Published

Hi, I'm currently taking anatomy and physiology. I hope this has not been ask yet,but I was wondering how hard is nursing school compared to the prereqs like A&P/biochem/microbio...Is the level of difficulty the similiar or totally different? ...and I also wanted to know if theres a lot of essay writing involved. Thanks in advance.

I would say that pre-reqs are a different way of thinking. You do a lot of memorizing in A&P, bio and micro. While you do some memorizing, like meds, in nursing school most of it is application of the nursing process. IMO it is a completely different way of thinking that takes practice.

In my program we did not have essay writing. We did have discussion groups and you had to post articles and back up information for your reasonings.

writing depends on the program. If you get a college degree it is expected you know how to write and not just memorize tasks.

I asked my aunt the same question about pre-req specifically A&P and she told me that it all about memorization the nursing program is where you will apply and learn your craft. Good luck.:smokin:

just a month ago i was asking people the very same question. anyhow, i agree with auburngirl95 when she said that nursing differs from taking & studying for biology classes in that it requires a different way of thinking. in nursing not only do you memorize certain things, but as my teacher put it you have to fully understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. overall, i think the program isn’t necessarily hard it just requires a lot of reading and much time and effort put forth... good luck!

Yea, thanks for the quick replys! I already finish my english courses...I just hated writing.

Like above posters stated, they are different. For me 17 credit hours of pre-reqs were easier than 12 credit hours of nursing classes. And we had to write papers at every level of nursing.
